ABOUT THE SYSTEM

This Web Data Portal was developed by the Agricultural Research Council Agrometeorology Division.

With this system you can purchase ad-hoc climate information of South Africa or subscribe to various data services offered.
Subscription services are for 2 months or more.

Ad-Hoc climate reports include the following time-periods:

  1. Hourly
  2. Daily
  3. 10-Daily
  4. Monthly
  5. Annual
  6. Long Term

Subscription services include:

  1. Daily Data Report (DDR)
  2. Daily Data supplied on a month to month basis
  3. Disease Report, focusing mainly on vineyards, for
    1. Downey Mildew (Primary and Secondary)
    2. Powdery Mildew (Primary and Secondary)

Data is available for 1900 weather stations scattered across South Africa.
These consist of:

  1. 1100 manual weather stations (MWS)
    1. MWS - Readings taken by an observer
  2. 763 automatic weather station (AWS)
    1. AWS - Readings recorded by a data logger

Of these 1900 weather stations, 460 AWS Stations are currently active and collecting data on a daily basis.
Although the difference of the AWS Stations have been retired, the data for it is still available.
All MWS stations have been retired but all data collected from it, is also still available.
Some of these stations have data (rainfall figures) dating as far back as January 1900.
